National Updates

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address a daylong post-budget webinar on agriculture and rural prosperity in the afternoon in New Delhi today. The event would be joined by all the Union Ministers.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the NXT conclave at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today. During the programme, the channel NewsX World will also be launched.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in New Delhi. During the talks, both sides committed to deepening engagement in trade, investment, technology and innovation, clean and green energy, connectivity, etc.
  • India retains the fastest-growing major economy tag as the country’s GDP grew by 6.2 percent in the third quarter of FY25, up from the revised rate of 5.6 percent in the previous quarter. India recorded a GDP growth of 8.6 percent in the third quarter of the last fiscal year.
  • The Centre has urged the states and Union Territories to adopt a proactive approach to maximise the procurement of wheat and paddy during the ensuing marketing season. This was discussed during a meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
  • Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hosted a high-level European Union delegation led by Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, along with space sector experts, in New Delhi.

 

International Updates

  • British international development minister Anneliese Dodds has resigned over Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to slash the foreign aid budget in order to boost defence spending.
  • Russia has offered the United States the restoration of direct air links between the two countries during the latest round of consultations with Washington.
  • A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchok at 2:51 am on Friday, with tremors felt in Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the epicentre was at Bhairav Kunda in the Sindhupalchok district.
  • In Bangladesh, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), a new political platform formed by student activists from the July-August Movement, was officially launched last evening at Manik Miah Avenue in Dhaka.
  • In Pakistan, a powerful blast killed at least five people and injured 20 others during Friday prayers at a mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned of an immediate and extremely strong response if the United States imposes tariffs on Canada. This comes amid rising trade tensions, with US President Donald Trump planning to implement 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting March 4.

 

Sports Updates

  • In the ICC Champions Trophy Cricket, rain has halted the Group B match between Afghanistan and Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Earlier, electing to bat first, Afghanistan posted 273 runs in 50 overs, losing the 10th wicket in the last ball of their innings.
  • In Tennis, India’s N. Sriram Balaji and his companion Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela of Mexico have stormed into the Men’s Doubles Semi-final of the Mexican Open in Acapulco, Mexico. The Indian-Mexican duo defeated James Tracy of the United States and Hans Hach of Mexico.
  • In Chess, Indian Grandmaster, Aravindh Chithambaram crashed through the defences of Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the second round of the Prague Masters in Prague, Czech Republic.
