National Updates

  • India’s fiscal deficit for the first eight months of this fiscal year through November stood at 8.47 lakh crore rupees or 52.5 percent of annual estimates, data from the Ministry of Finance showed.
  • Several parts of the country are expected to grapple with cold wave conditions on the New Year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to scattered rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayan region during the next two to three days.
  • India’s core sectors’ output growth increased by 4.3 percent in November this year on an annual basis, according to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce
  • President Droupadi Murmu Greets Nation on Eve of New Year 2025
  • The interest rates on various Small Savings Schemes has been kept unchanged for the fourth quarter of this financial year. Finance Ministry said, the rates of interest on Small Savings Schemes from 1st January to 31st March, 2025, will remain unchanged.
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the last date to 15th January for furnishing belated and revised return of income for the Assessment Year 2024-25 in the case of resident individuals.

 

International Updates

  • Russia launched an aerial attack on Ukraine today, striking the capital and other regions with multiple missiles and drones. Ukraine said that it downed six of 21 missiles launched overnight and in the early morning by Russia.
  • In Nepal, the 18th edition of the India-Nepal military exercise with the aim of security and expansion of bilateral relations has begun at Rupandehi in Lumbini Province.
  • The US treasury department was hacked by Chinese state-sponsored hackers earlier this month, with several of unclassified documents and access to many employee workstations.
  • India assures support for Indian nurse Nimisha Priya facing death sentence in Yemen
