National Updates

• President Droupadi Murmu has given assent to Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Parliament had passed the Bill last month, amending the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

• In Jammu and Kashmir, a mega Tiranga rally was held near the Line of Control in Teetwal, Karnah area of Kupwara district. A 1,200-metre-long National Flag was carried during the rally, which saw participation from school students, teachers, ex-servicemen, civil and police officials.

• Parliament has passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, with the Rajya Sabha approving it. Lok Sabha has already passed the bill.

• India reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable and integral part of India and nothing can change this indisputable reality.

• The Lok Sabha has passed the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026. The Bill seeks to change the name of the state of Kerala to Keralam in the First Schedule of the Constitution. A resolution in this regard was passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly in June 2024.

• NASA has invited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to join its Moon Base programme, building on the two countries’ partnership under the Artemis Accords. India and US have agreed to advance discussions for cooperation on open scientific data sharing under the Accords.

• The Ministry of Civil Aviation has said that Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a thorough investigation covering all facts and evidence in the recent Air India flight incident.

• Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has informed that the progress of area coverage under Kharif Crops has recorded more than 967 lakh hectare area as of 7th of this month.

• Hungary’s parliament elected former Supreme Court chief Andras Baka as the country’s next President. Baka, who will serve in the largely ceremonial role, was elected with the support of members of the governing centre-right Tisza party.

• The death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck western Colombia yesterday has crossed 200 marks. Citing local authority’s media reported that more than 200 people were killed and over 3,000 people are still missing. The death toll is expected to rise further as many are feared trapped.

• Lebanon’s parliament abolished the death penalty, making it the first country in the Arab world to replace the sentencing with life imprisonment with aggravated hard labour. A majority of Lebanon’s 128-member parliament voted in favour of ending the death penalty.

• Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and several former officials have been sentenced to death by a Syrian court for crimes against humanity, premeditated murder and torture.

• The death toll from Congo’s Ebola outbreak has surpassed two thousand mark. According to government data released last night, the outbreak has so far recorded, 4,381 confirmed cases, including 2.011 deaths, while 704 patients remain in admission and isolation facilities.

• In the Canadian Open 2026, former world number one Iga Swiatek stormed into the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Russia’s Diana Shnaider in 64 minutes. The sixth-time Grand Slam champion will face Ukraine’s ninth seed Elina Svitolina, who defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

• India has made a strong start at the U-23 Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, winning 17 medals, including 4 gold, on the opening day. राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने राष्ट्रीय सम्मान के अपमान की रोकथाम (संशोधन) विधेयक, २०२६ को मंजूरी दे दी है। संसद ने पिछले महीने राष्ट्रीय सम्मान अपमान निवारण अधिनियम, १९७१ में संशोधन करते हुए विधेयक पारित किया था।
जम्मू-कश्मीर में कुपवाड़ा जिले के करनाह इलाके के टीटवाल में नियंत्रण रेखा के पास एक मेगा तिरंगा रैली आयोजित की गई। रैली के दौरान 1,200 मीटर लंबा राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया गया, जिसमें स्कूली छात्रों, शिक्षकों, पूर्व सैनिकों, नागरिक और पुलिस अधिकारियों ने भाग लिया।
संसद ने न्यायाधिकरण सुधार विधेयक, 2026 पारित कर दिया है, जिसे राज्यसभा ने मंजूरी दे दी है। लोकसभा पहले ही विधेयक पारित कर चुकी है।
भारत ने दोहराया कि अरुणाचल प्रदेश भारत का अविभाज्य और अभिन्न अंग है और इस निर्विवाद वास्तविकता को कोई नहीं बदल सकता।
लोकसभा ने केरल (नाम परिवर्तन) विधेयक, २०२६ पारित कर दिया है। विधेयक संविधान की पहली अनुसूची में केरल राज्य का नाम बदलकर केरलम करने का प्रयास करता है। इस संबंध में केरल विधान सभा द्वारा जून २०२४ में एक प्रस्ताव पारित किया गया था।
नासा ने आर्टेमिस समझौते के तहत दोनों देशों’ की साझेदारी को आगे बढ़ाते हुए भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) को अपने मून बेस कार्यक्रम में शामिल होने के लिए आमंत्रित किया है। भारत और अमेरिका ने समझौते के तहत खुले वैज्ञानिक डेटा साझाकरण पर सहयोग के लिए चर्चा को आगे बढ़ाने पर सहमति व्यक्त की है।
नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने कहा है कि विमान दुर्घटना जांच ब्यूरो (एएआईबी) हाल ही में एयर इंडिया की उड़ान की घटना के सभी तथ्यों और साक्ष्यों की गहन जांच करेगा।
