• Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), was commissioned into the Bharatiya Tatrakshak Fleet at Goa. The Defence Ministry said the ship reinforces the Coast Guard’s resolve to ensure safe, secure and clean seas while protecting India’s vast maritime.

• The first phase of helicopter operations for the Char Dham Yatra has concluded. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that during this period, around 400 helicopter movements were conducted daily. The Ministry added that over 12,000 shuttle departures facilitated the travel of more than 67,000 pilgrims.

• Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 517th birth anniversary celebrations of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda at the Gyana Jyothi Auditorium in Bengaluru.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Victoria this afternoon on a three-day visit to Seychelles. He was received by President of Seychelles Dr Patrick Herminie at the airport.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people of the country and abroad in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Akashvani today at 11 AM. It will be the 135th episode of the monthly radio programme.

International Updates

• The fragile ceasefire brokered two weeks ago to end a four-month conflict in West Asia faces serious pressure following a series of retaliatory strikes between the United States and Iran over the past 48 hours.

• A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan last evening at around 7:04 PM Indian time. Tremors were felt across India, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Shocks were also felt in several parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR.

• Indian Naval Ships Udaygiri, Kavaratti and Shakti of the Eastern Fleet have reached Sattahip in Thailand as part of their operational deployment to the South-East Asia region. The Ministry of Defence said the port call aims to further strengthen camaraderie, mutual cooperation.

• The Indian Navy’s indigenously built Survey Vessel Large, INS Ikshak, has reached Port Victoria in Seychelles as part of its operational deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region. The Defence Ministry said the visit coincides with Seychelles’ 50th National Day celebrations.

• Bahrain accused Iran of launching fresh drone attack targeting the island nation. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a number of Iranian drones targeted the country, without elaborating much on the targets of the attack. No casualties have been ‌reported so far.

• The British government has announced plans to introduce safe and legal pathways for eligible refugees while tightening immigration rules to make it easier to deport people residing in the country illegally.

• The World Bank has approved 1.1 billion dollars in emergency financing for Bangladesh, underscoring the growing economic pressures facing the country amid rising fuel and fertiliser costs, shrinking fiscal space and mounting concerns over food security.

• India’s Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the men’s singles final of the US Open Badminton Championships at the Titan Gym in California. Srikanth defeated Japan’s Yudai Okimoto 22-20, 15-21 and 21-19 in a hard-fought semifinal.

• India has reached the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kazakhstan in their opening Group C match in Yatsushiro, Japan.
