National Updates

• The Press Information Bureau today termed as baseless and misleading the reports claiming that the Tamil film “Jana Nayagan” was leaked from the Central Board of Film Certification. The CBFC has clarified that it follows a secure KDM (Key Delivery Message) system for all theatrical films.

• Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Indian-flagged vessel JAG VIKRAM, navigated by 24 Indian crew members, successfully sailed out of the Persian Gulf region.

• Legendary playback icon Asha Bhosle was rushed to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. She was immediately admitted and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital’s Emergency Medical Services unit.

• External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar started his visit to the UAE, interacting with the members of the Indian Community. During the interaction, he spoke about the government of India’s efforts towards their well-being and security amidst the West Asia conflict.

• The government has said domestic LPG cylinder deliveries remain normal, and over 51.5 lakh cylinders were delivered yesterday. In a statement, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said enforcement actions continue across the country to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG.

• The government has increased the export duty on diesel from 21.5 rupees per litre to 55.5 rupees per litre. The Ministry of Finance informed that the duty on Aviation Turbine Fuel has also been increased from 29.5 rupees per litre to 42 rupees per litre.

• On the third day of his visit to Bhutan, Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar undertook key engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation in infrastructure and development.

• An Indian-born female cheetah has given birth to four cubs in the wild at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, has described the development as a historic milestone in the country’s cheetah conservation journey.

• The Iraqi parliament elected Kurdish politician Nizar Amedi as the country’s ​new president, following parliamentary elections held in November last year. Amedi is a former environment minister and has headed the political office of the Patriotic Union of ​Kurdistan (PUK) in Baghdad since 2024.

• The Israeli military said its air force struck infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah in Lebanon, while continuing to support ground operations in southern Lebanon. The statement came as Iran pressed for a halt to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah during talks between Iran and the US in Pakistan.

• Ukraine and Russia today exchanged 175 prisoners of war each, ahead of a planned ceasefire to mark Orthodox Easter. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had brought home 175 servicemen and seven civilians from Russian captivity.

• The United States and Iran are holding talks to establish lasting peace in West Asia in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA confirmed that three-party talks with the U.S., Iran and Pakistan have begun after a reduction in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon.

• Britain’s plan to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius has been put on indefinite hold after the US withdrew its support for the deal. The UK government said legislation to ratify the agreement has run out of time in Parliament and is unlikely to be revived in the next session.

• Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh was reelected for a sixth term after official results showed him winning 97.81 per cent of the vote in yesterday’s election. Guelleh has ruled the small Horn of Africa nation of about 1 million for more than two decades.

• Shuttler Ayush Shetty has stormed into the final of the Badminton Asia Championships, assuring at least a silver medal, with a remarkable three-game victory over top seed and defending champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

• India’s Meenakshi Goyat settled for a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 after losing the women’s 53kg final in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, yesterday.

• केंद्रीय बंदरगाह, नौवहन और जलमार्ग मंत्री सर्बानंद सोनोवाल ने कहा कि भारतीय ध्वज वाला जहाज जग विक्रम, जिसे २४ भारतीय चालक दल के सदस्यों ने चलाया, फारस की खाड़ी क्षेत्र से सफलतापूर्वक बाहर निकल गया।

• सरकार ने डीजल पर निर्यात शुल्क २१.५ रुपये प्रति लीटर से बढ़ाकर ५५.५ रुपये प्रति लीटर कर दिया है। वित्त मंत्रालय ने बताया कि एविएशन टर्बाइन फ्यूल पर शुल्क भी २९.५ रुपये प्रति लीटर से बढ़ाकर ४२ रुपये प्रति लीटर कर दिया गया है।
