National Updates

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Rajasthan till today. Similar conditions will prevail over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for today.

• India has welcomed Spain joining the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI). Foreign Minister of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares, handed over the signed Declaration of Accession to the IPOI to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

• The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has handed over a dividend of 8.89 crore rupees for 2024-25 to Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh in New Delhi. The Minister appreciated CCI’s performance and highlighted its key role in ensuring remunerative prices to cotton farmers.

• National Highways Authority of India, NHAI and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited signed an MoU to strengthen integrated infrastructure development in New Delhi. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed that the MoU aims to enhance coordination in road and rail planning.

• The Ministry of Culture will present a tableau on the theme ‘150 Years of Vande Mataram’ at the Republic Day Parade this year. The tableau foregrounds the national song as a living expression of India’s civilisational memory, collective consciousness, and cultural continuity.

• The government approved the continuation of Atal Pension Yojana till the year 2030-31, along with the extension of funding support for promotional and developmental activities.

International Updates

• India has completed another major infrastructure project in Sri Lanka under its USD 450 million post-Cyclone Ditwah assistance package. The 120-foot Bailey Bridge on the B-492 Highway was jointly inaugurated by India’s Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Dr Satyanjal Pandey, and Nuwara Eliya MP.

• Secretary (West) in the External Affairs Ministry, Sibi George, called on the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, in Ashgabat.

• US President Donald Trump has said that if the United States Supreme Court ruling is not in his administration’s favour, he will do his best to pay the tariffs back.

• Japan has restarted a reactor at the world’s largest Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant. It has started nearly 15 years after a disaster at the Fukushima power plant forced the country to shut all its nuclear reactors.

• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the invitation of US President Donald Trump to be a part of the Gaza Board of Peace.

• The All-India Football Federation has appointed Amelia Valverde as the coach of the senior Indian women’s football team. 39-year-old Valverde, who hails from Costa Rica, has joined the Indian camp in Antalya, Türkiye, where the Blue Tigresses are preparing for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने आज तक अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीप समूह तथा राजस्थान में बिजली गिरने के साथ-साथ तूफान आने का अनुमान लगाया है। आज हरियाणा, चंडीगढ़, दिल्ली, हिमाचल प्रदेश, जम्मू-कश्मीर और लद्दाख में भी ऐसी ही स्थितियां बनी रहेंगी।
• भारत ने इंडो-पैसिफिक ओशन्स इनिशिएटिव (आईपीओआई) में स्पेन के शामिल होने का स्वागत किया है। स्पेन के विदेश मंत्री जोस मैनुअल अल्बारेस ने विदेश मंत्री डॉ. एस जयशंकर को आईपीओआई में शामिल होने की हस्ताक्षरित घोषणा सौंपी।
• भारतीय कपास निगम (सीसीआई) ने नई दिल्ली में कपड़ा मंत्री गिरिराज सिंह को २०२४-२५ के लिए ८.८९ करोड़ रुपये का लाभांश सौंपा है। मंत्री ने सीसीआई के प्रदर्शन की सराहना की तथा कपास किसानों को लाभकारी मूल्य सुनिश्चित करने में इसकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका पर प्रकाश डाला।
• भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण, एनएचएआई और कोंकण रेलवे कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड ने नई दिल्ली में एकीकृत बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास को मजबूत करने के लिए एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए। सड़क परिवहन एवं राजमार्ग मंत्रालय ने बताया कि समझौता ज्ञापन का उद्देश्य सड़क एवं रेल नियोजन में समन्वय बढ़ाना है।

• विदेश मंत्रालय में सचिव (पश्चिम) सिबी जॉर्ज ने अश्गाबात में तुर्कमेनिस्तान के विदेश मंत्री राशिद मेरेदोव से मुलाकात की।

• जापान ने दुनिया के सबसे बड़े काशीवाजाकी-करिवा परमाणु संयंत्र में एक रिएक्टर को फिर से शुरू कर दिया है। इसकी शुरुआत फुकुशिमा विद्युत संयंत्र में हुई आपदा के लगभग 15 वर्ष बाद हुई है, जिसके कारण देश को अपने सभी परमाणु रिएक्टर बंद करने पड़े थे।
