National Updates

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the Terms of Reference of 8th Central Pay Commission. Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi , Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Commission will make its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its constitution.

  • The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology hosted a special round table on using genomic research to strengthen public health response to future pandemics in New Delhi.

  • Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports extended the last date for submitting online applications for National Sports Awards to the 4th of the next month. Eligible sportspersons, coaches, and entities can submit their applications through the official online portal at www.dbtyas-sports.gov.in.

  • Flagship youth engagement initiative of The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mera Yuva Bharat, has achieved a milestone with the platform by crossing over 2 crore registrations.

  • India’s industrial production growth, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew 4 percent on an annual basis in September this year, led by manufacturing sector.

  • South Korea, the United States and Japan will hold trilateral talks among their top diplomats during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering this week. The meeting will take place in a closed-door format today afternoon.

  • A man charged for assassinating former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2022 pleaded guilty, in his first court hearing since the fatal shooting that shocked the nation and drew attention to Unification Church and its connection to political leaders.

  • Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has intercepted a major shipment of Chinese mitten crabs after laboratory tests revealed traces of a banned veterinary drug, raising renewed alarm over the safety of food imports from China.

  • Currently there is an impact of the westerly winds as well as the low-pressure system formed in the Arabian Sea, resulting in the generally cloudy situation across Nepal. Temperature dipped in Kathmandu valley with light rain.

  • Pakistan’s Lahore city continues to remain the world’s most polluted city as smog blanketed the region and the city’s Air Quality Index was recorded at 424 as per Swiss air quality monitor IQAir.

  • At least 19 people were injured after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey’s western province of Balikesir. Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu said on social media platform X that the injuries primarily resulted from panic and people jumping from high elevations.

  • The 8th round of India-Belarus Foreign Office Consultations was held in Minsk, Belarus. In a social media post, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal informed.

  • Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has secured the top spot among batters in the world in Women’s ODI rankings. She achieved the rating of 828 points, which puts her nearly 100 points ahead of the second-placed player, Ashleigh Gardner of Australia.

  • In Chess, Gukesh Dommaraju took the early lead at the Clutch Chess Champions Showdown 2025, finishing Day 1 atop the table at the St. Louis Chess Club, USA, yesterday. Against a lineup featuring the world’s elite Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Fabiano Caruana.

  • In swimming, India’s Dhinidhi Desinghu has set a new national record in the 400 metre freestyle at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain yesterday. Dhinidhi clocked 4 minutes 21.86 seconds to finish fifth in the final, bettering her own record of 4 minutes 24.60 seconds.

  • In wrestling, India’s Sujeet Kalkal has struck gold at the Under-23 World Championships. Competing in the men’s freestyle 65-kilogram category yesterday, Kalkal dominated Uzbekistan’s Umidjon Jalolov.

केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने 8वें केंद्रीय वेतन आयोग के विचारार्थ विषयों को मंजूरी दे दी है। नई दिल्ली में कैबिनेट की बैठक के बाद मीडिया को जानकारी देते हुए सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने कहा कि आयोग अपने गठन की तारीख से १८ महीने के भीतर अपनी सिफारिशें करेगा।
• इंटरनेशनल सेंटर फॉर जेनेटिक इंजीनियरिंग एंड बायोटेक्नोलॉजी ने नई दिल्ली में भविष्य की महामारियों के प्रति सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य प्रतिक्रिया को मजबूत करने के लिए जीनोमिक अनुसंधान का उपयोग करने पर एक विशेष गोलमेज सम्मेलन की मेजबानी की।
• युवा मामले और खेल मंत्रालय ने राष्ट्रीय खेल पुरस्कारों के लिए ऑनलाइन आवेदन जमा करने की अंतिम तिथि अगले महीने की 4 तारीख तक बढ़ा दी। पात्र खिलाड़ी, कोच और संस्थाएं आधिकारिक ऑनलाइन पोर्टल www.dbtyas-sports.gov.in के माध्यम से अपने आवेदन प्रस्तुत कर सकते हैं।
• युवा मामले और खेल मंत्रालय की प्रमुख युवा सहभागिता पहल, मेरा युवा भारत ने 2 करोड़ से अधिक पंजीकरणों को पार करके इस मंच के साथ एक मील का पत्थर हासिल किया है।
• औद्योगिक उत्पादन सूचकांक (आईआईपी) द्वारा मापी गई भारत की औद्योगिक उत्पादन वृद्धि इस वर्ष सितंबर में वार्षिक आधार पर 4 प्रतिशत बढ़ी, जिसका नेतृत्व विनिर्माण क्षेत्र ने किया।
