National Updates

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand till Tuesday and in Himachal Pradesh till Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu till 22nd July, and in Telangana till 24th July.

• Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the government held an all-party meeting to ensure a smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament. The meeting was convened by the government to seek cooperation from opposition parties for the smooth conduct of the session.

• Ten new commercial flight routes launched from Hindon Civil Terminal in Ghaziabad

• The three-day Youth Spiritual Summit on the topic of Drug-free Youth for Developed India concluded with the Kashi Declaration. The resolution expressed commitment to a nationwide campaign for drug-free youth.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-nation visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and Maldives from 23rd to 26th of this month. In his first leg of the tour, Mr Modi will visit UK from 23rd to 24th July, at the invitation of his UK counterpart Keir Starmer.

• Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has rolled out its 2,500th electric locomotive, a WAP-7 class engine with 6,000 horsepower. The locomotive features air-conditioned cabins, real-time monitoring systems, regenerative braking, and a modified gear ratio for operations at 140 kilometres per hour.

• India is developing a Multi-Stage Malaria Vaccine Candidate named AdFalciVax. The vaccine aims to provide protection against human infection while also reducing vector-borne community transmission of the parasite.

• Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally quit the Indian National Developmental Inclusive (INDI) Alliance. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh told media that the I.N.D.I. Alliance was formed just for the 2024 general elections.

• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने उत्तराखंड में मंगलवार तक और हिमाचल प्रदेश में बुधवार तक बहुत भारी बारिश का अनुमान लगाया है। तमिलनाडु में 22 जुलाई तक तथा तेलंगाना में 24 जुलाई तक भारी से बहुत भारी वर्षा होने की संभावना है।
• संसद के मानसून सत्र से पहले, सरकार ने संसद के दोनों सदनों के सुचारू कामकाज को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए एक सर्वदलीय बैठक आयोजित की। यह बैठक सरकार द्वारा सत्र के सुचारू संचालन के लिए विपक्षी दलों से सहयोग प्राप्त करने के लिए बुलाई गई थी।
• गाजियाबाद के हिंडन सिविल टर्मिनल से दस नए वाणिज्यिक उड़ान मार्ग शुरू किए गए
• विकसित भारत के लिए नशा मुक्त युवा विषय पर तीन दिवसीय युवा आध्यात्मिक शिखर सम्मेलन काशी घोषणा के साथ संपन्न हुआ। प्रस्ताव में नशा मुक्त युवाओं के लिए राष्ट्रव्यापी अभियान चलाने की प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त की गई।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी इस महीने की २३ से २६ तारीख तक यूनाइटेड किंगडम (यूके) और मालदीव की दो देशों की यात्रा पर रहेंगे। दौरे के अपने पहले चरण में श्री मोदी अपने ब्रिटिश समकक्ष कीर स्टारमर के निमंत्रण पर 23 से 24 जुलाई तक ब्रिटेन का दौरा करेंगे।
• बनारस लोकोमोटिव वर्क्स (बीएलडब्ल्यू) ने अपना 2,500वां इलेक्ट्रिक लोकोमोटिव, 6,000 हॉर्स पावर वाला WAP-7 श्रेणी का इंजन पेश किया है। इस लोकोमोटिव में वातानुकूलित केबिन, वास्तविक समय निगरानी प्रणाली, पुनर्योजी ब्रेकिंग और 140 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे की गति से संचालन के लिए संशोधित गियर अनुपात की सुविधा है।
• भारत एडफाल्सीवैक्स नामक एक बहु-चरणीय मलेरिया वैक्सीन उम्मीदवार विकसित कर रहा है। इस टीके का उद्देश्य मानव संक्रमण से सुरक्षा प्रदान करना है, साथ ही परजीवी के वेक्टर जनित सामुदायिक संचरण को कम करना है।

• In Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, five powerful earthquakes struck offshore, with the strongest registering a magnitude of 7.4. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the largest quake occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers and was centred 144 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

• International Moon Day is being observed to commemorate the historic Apollo 11 mission, when humans first set foot on the Moon on July 20th in 1969. The United Nations General Assembly officially recognised this observance in 2021.

• Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a new round of peace talks with Russia, aiming to de-escalate tensions amid renewed hostilities. The invitation was extended by Rustem Umerov, recently appointed secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council.

• Prince Al-Waleed, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince,’ passed away at the age of 36 after spending nearly two decades in coma.

• In Pakistan, the sit-in protest by Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) against the government has entered its fifth day at the capital city of Islamabad.

Sports Updates:

• England will host the next three World Test Championship finals in 2027, 2029 and 2031. The International Cricket Council announced it at its annual conference in Singapore. The matches, expected to be held in June, align with the English cricket season and favourable weather.

• India scripted history, clinching its first-ever medal in badminton at the FISU World University Games in Berlin, Germany. India bags bronze in mixed team event after losing in the semifinal tie 3-1 to Chinese Taipei.

• In FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025, India’s strong showing continues with four Grandmasters in game two of the quarterfinals in Batumi, Georgia. As India becomes the first country to have four players in the Quarterfinals, the Grandmasters are looking to clinch spots in the semifinals.

• In Athletics, Murali Sreeshankar has clinched the Long Jump title at the Portugal Sports Meet, with a leap of 7.75 metre last night. The event is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level meet.

• The Cricket match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions has been called off at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The match was canceled after organisers faced major blacklash.
