National Updates

• The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has imposed Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect after the region’s Air Quality Index (AQI) slipped into the ‘poor’ category.

• The Ministry of Culture has launched a powerful and binding initiative, Ek Desh Ek Dhadkan (One Nation, One Heartbeat), to honour the bravehearts of the nation. The slogan Ek Desh Ek Dhadkan is being widely adopted across digital platforms, amplifying the spirit of unity, patriotic fervour.

• The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare will be conducting the 13th Pension Adalat with the theme of “Family Pension” on the 4th of next month at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

• President Droupadi Murmu conferred the 58th Jnanpith Award on Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya at a function in New Delhi. Jagadguru Rambhadracharya and the renowned Urdu poet and lyricist Gulzar have been selected for this prestigious award for 2023.

• The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at 15 locations linked with banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist group in Punjab in a case related to grenade attack on a police station in Gurdaspur district last year.

• The government is planning to send multi-party delegations to different countries to present India’s stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the wake of Operation Sindoor. Sources said each delegation is expected to have a group of MPs from both ruling and opposition parties.

• Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi held a high-level review meeting in Patna with Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and other officials regarding preparations for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalties on two major banks – Deutsche Bank AG, India, and Yes Bank Limited – for violations of regulatory norms.

• Belgium’s Parliament has voted to drop the country’s planned nuclear phaseout. The motion was passed with 102 votes in favor, eight against and 31 abstentions.

• Russia and Ukraine have agreed to carry out the largest prisoner-of-war exchange since the onset of the conflict between the two countries. The decision was taken during the peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations at the Dolmabahce Palace in Turkish city of Istanbul.

• The Irish government has expressed deep concern over the increasing crackdown on civil society activists in Balochistan province of Pakistan and reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the human rights situation in the region.

• In Nigeria, the death toll from the Lassa fever outbreak in Africa’s most populous country has reached 138 since the beginning of this year. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said 717 confirmed cases have been recorded so far.

• After facing an insurmountable defeat in the skies, Pakistan is now extending its delusional claims to the digital sphere. In an ironic course of events, Pakistan, whose Air Force wings were clawed down by the Eagles of Indian Air Defence, is now calling itself the King of Skies.
