National Updates

• The Reserve Bank has announced a long-term dollar-rupee swap auction for ten billion dollars on 28th February 2025. According to an official press release, the auction will be for a tenor of three years from 4th March 2025 to 6th March 2028.
• External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot at the India-Australia-France trilateral meeting in Johannesburg.
• India’s gaming industry has seen remarkable growth, particularly in digital and online gaming, which has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country’s media and entertainment landscape.
• The WAVES Promo Video Challenge, a part of the Create in India Challenges, is a call to creators, visionaries, and storytellers to craft captivating videos that embody the spirit of the upcoming World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025.
• The External Affairs Ministry said that the recent statements about USAID funding are troubling and lead to concerns about foreign interference in India’s internal affairs.
• The government has said that around 17 lakh new employees have been enrolled under the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIC) in the month of December 2024. As per the provisional payroll data of ESIC released, 20,360 new establishments were brought under the social security ambit of the ESIC.

International Updates

• Hamas has announced the names of the latest Israeli hostages to be released today amid mounting outrage over the Palestinian group’s admission that it released the wrong body instead of Shiri Bibas’.
• Headline inflation in Sri Lanka, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index, dropped to minus 4 percent in January. The year-on-year inflation was recorded at minus 2 percent in December.
• India’s participation in IDEX and NAVDEX 2025 concludes, reaffirming the country’s commitment to global security cooperation, indigenous defence innovation, and strategic partnerships in the international defence landscape.
• United States National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to tone down its stance and resume negotiations over a minerals deal with the US. The proposed agreement, which reportedly seeks a 50 per cent share of Ukraine’s natural resources.
• Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong warned international airlines operating between Australia and New Zealand to be cautious of Chinese warships conducting a live-fire exercise in the Tasman Sea.
• United States President Donald Trump’s loyalist Kash Patel has been elected as the 9th Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is America’s premier federal law enforcement agency.

Sports Updates

• In the Qatar Open Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig lost to the British duo of Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash, 6-7, 3-6, in the Men’s Doubles Semifinal.
• The Indian women’s hockey team lost 0-4 to Germany in the FIH Pro League in Bhubaneswar. The Germans controlled the match from start to finish, with Amelie Wortmann and Sophia Schwabe scoring their first three goals before Johanne Hachenberg converted a penalty corner in the 59th minute.
• In the Indian Super League (ISL) Football, Jamshedpur FC defeated Mohammedan SC 2-nil at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
