NATIONAL UPDATES

•India is hosting the 13th United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM) Asia-Pacific Plenary and Regional Conference from today. The four-day event will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Ninety international delegates from 30 countries, along with 120 delegates from India
•Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the TeacherApp in New Delhi. The primary aim of the digital platform is to revolutionize education in India by equipping educators with future-ready skills to meet the demands of 21st-century classrooms.
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a three-day visit to Odisha from the 29th of this month to attend the all-India conference of Director Generals of Police and Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar.
•External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar met his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot in Rome. They took stock of the India-France partnership and also discussed the Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, and global issues.
•India’s economic outlook is cautiously optimistic, with agriculture expected to benefit from favourable monsoon conditions, higher minimum support prices, and adequate input supply.
•Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated 227 Gender Resource Centres in 13 states under the Nayi Chetna 3.0 campaign. On the occasion, the Minister asserted that the government is working towards the social, economic, political, and educational empowerment of women.
•The Government has announced year-long celebrations beginning tomorrow to commemorate the 75th year of the adoption of the Constitution of India. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.
•Both Houses of Parliament adjourned for the day amid ruckus over alleged bribery charges against a particular business group and other issues
•PM Modi thanks Guyana President for his support to Ek Ped Maa Ki Naam initiative

 

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES

•In Bangladesh, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari of ISKCON Pundrik Dham was arrested by police at Dhaka airport. He is the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote which advocates for minorities’ rights and security
•The anti-government protest march of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters has now reached the outskirts of Islamabad, where massive security arrangements have been made to prevent its entry into Pakistan’s capital.
•The India Global Forum’s flagship Middle East & Africa 2024 (ME&A 2024) opened in Dubai, uniting leaders from India, the Middle East, and Africa under the theme ‘Limitless Horizons.’ The two-day forum aims to strengthen partnerships in key sectors
•In Nepal, the Department of Environment has urged the public not to burn solid and plastic wastes at the onset of winter after the rise in air pollution in several parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley. Presently, a few locations in Kathmandu Valley have AQI as 149 to 158.
•In Sudan, the United Nation’s top humanitarian official, Tom Fletcher, has pledged increased efforts to secure funding for Sudan’s 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan.

 

SPORTS NEWS

•In chess, reigning World Champion Ding Liren defeated India’s Dommaraju Gukesh in the opening round of the 2024 World Chess Championship in Singapore
•Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya today met President of World Athletics and IOC Member, Lord Sebastian Coe in New Delhi. In a social media post, Mr Mandaviya said he discussed India’s intent to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics
•In Cricket, India delivered a resounding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Perth, Australia. This emphatic win marks one of India’s largest Test triumphs
