Temples are an important part of Indian culture and religion. There are thousands of temples in India, each with its own unique features and history. India is the birth land for many religions like Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and Hinduism. Hinduism is believed to be the oldest religion of the world, all teach us to live in harmony and peace. In India so many religions reside still they live together in harmony and brotherhood.

Venkateswara Temple Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh It is located in the Tirumala hills on the bank of Pushkarini River.
This temple is dedicated to lord Venkateshwara.
This temple is also known as Tirupati Balaji temple and temple of seven hills.
The temple is in Dravidian style of Architecture.
Mallikarjuna Temple Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh This temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and Parvati.
It is one of the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Mahabodhi Temple Bodh Gaya, Bihar It is a Buddist temple,
It was built by the King Ashoka in around 260 BCE,
It is believed the Lord Buddha attained enlightenment  here.
It is recognized as  UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002.
Akshardham Temple Delhi It is located on the bank of the Yamuna river.
It is constructed from the Rajasthani pink Sandstone.
Dwarkadhish Temple Dwarka, Gujarat It is also known as Jagat Mandir.
It is the part of Char Dham yatra
This temple is Constructed in Chalukyan style.
Somnath Temple Gujarat It is also known as Deo Patan.
It is one of the 12 jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.
This temple is Constructed in Chalukyan style.
Kalika Mata Temple Panchmahal, Gujarat This temple is located at the summit of Pavagadh Hill.
It is dedicated to goddess Kalika Mata.
It is one of the Shakti Peethas.
Amarnath Temple Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir It is a  cave temple, located in Lidder Valley, is surrounded by glaciers most of the year.
It is believed that Bhrigu Muni was the first to have discovered Amarnath.
It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Amarnath yatra is conducted in the months of July and August.
Vaishno Devi Temple Jammu & Kashmir It is a  Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Vaishno Devi,
It is located in Katra, Reasi on the slopes of Trikuta Hills,  5200 feet above sea level.
It is a Cave temple.
Baidyanath Temple Deoghar, Jharkhand This temple is also known as the Baba Baidyanath Dam,
It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of lord Shiva.
Kanwar yatra is conducted every year in the month of Shrawan, devotees fetch holy waters from the Ganga River from Sultanganj in Bihar and they walk around 120km to pour and offer this water in Baidyanath Temple. 
Virupaksha Temple Karnataka It was built in the 7th century.
Built by Lakkana Dandesha, a chieftain under the ruler Deva Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire.
It forms a part of the Group of Monuments at Hampi that is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gomateshwara Temple Karnataka It is also known as Bahubali temple.
It was built in the 10th century, and it is one of the most important pilgrimage places for the Jain community.
The tallest monolithic statue of Gomateshwara of 58.8 feet high, in the world carved out of a single block of granite.
Padmanabhaswamy Temple Kerala It is located in the capital city of Kerala, Thirubanthapuram.
The Temple can be visited by Hindus only and it is dedicated to lord Vishnu.
The architecture is the fusion of Chera and Dravidian styles.
Khajuraho Temple Madhya Pradesh They are a group of temples built by the rulers of Chandela Dynasty.
Famous for Nagara style architecture and known for extensive erotic sculptures.
Siddhivinayak Temple Maharashtra It is dedicated to  Lord Shri Ganesh
It is one of the richest temples in India.
It was constructed by Laxman Vithu & Dubai Patil in 1801.
Konark Sun Temple Puri, Odisha  The Sun temple is located in the town of Konark part of Puri district in Odisha
This temple is in the shape of a chariot which is drawn by seven horses.
This temple is also known as Black Pagoda.
Built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I during the Ganga Empire.
Jagannath Temple Puri, Odisha     It is also called Yamanika Tirtha and White Pagoda.
It is one of the Char Dhams of India.
This temple in Puri is famous for its annual chariot festival, Ratha Yatra.
Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are a trio of deities worshipped at the temple.
Lingaraja Temple Odisha Built is the Kalinga style of Architecture.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, their combined form is referred as Harihara.
Golden Temple Amritsar, Punjab It is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib.
It is the most important pilgrimage site of Sikhism.
It was built by Guru Arjan dev.
It is a Gurdwara, built in the 15th century.
Temple was plated in Gold in 1980 from the wealth and material donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh
Ranakpur Temple Pali, Rajasthan Ranakpur is the village between Udaipur and Jodhpur.
It was built in 15th century jain temple dedicated to Lord Adinatha.
Ramanathaswamy Temple Tamil Nadu It is located in Rameswaram island in Tamil Nadu, for some time it is called as Rameswaram Temple.
One of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples built in the 12th Century.
It has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India.
It is built in the Dravidian style of architecture.
There are 64 Tīrthas i.e. holy water bodies in and around the island of Rameswaram.
It is also one of the Char Dhams.
Meenakshi Temple Madurai, Tamil Nadu This temple is dedicated to Goddess Pravati and her husband Lord Shiva.
The temple hall consists of 985 Pillars.
It has Dravidian Architecture and over 40 inscriptions.
It is famous for its 3 storied Gopuram at the main entrance.
Ranganathaswamy Temple Tamil Nadu This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu .
It is built in Dravidian style, constructed in Vijayanagar Period.
It is located on the island formed by the twin river- Cauvery & Coleroon.
1st temple to be awarded by the UN Body for protecting and conserving cultural heritage.
Its Gopuram is the biggest Gopuram in Asia. Also, it is the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world.
Brihadeeswara Temple Tamil Nadu Also known as Peruvudalyar Kovil and  Raja Rajeswara Temple located at Thanjavur.
This Dravidian style temple was built in 11 century by the Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I.
It is One of the tallest temples in India that is completely made of Granite.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
It is also called Dakshin Meru and is situated on the bank of Cauvery river.
It is a part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Rajagopalaswamy Temple Tamil Nadu It is created in Dravidian style, it is also called Dakshina Dwaraka.
It has one of the largest temple tanks in India called Haridra Nadhi.
Kashi Vishwanath Temple Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh It is one of the twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
The original Vishwanath temple was destroyed by the army of Qutb-Uddin Aibak in 1194 CE when he defeated the Raja of Kannauj.
In 1780, Malhar Rao’s daughter-in-law Ahilyabai Holkar constructed the present temple adjacent to the mosque.
Badrinath Temple Chamoli, Uttarakhand It is located on  Garhwal hill along the banks of Alaknanda River.
It is the part of Char Dham yatra
It is dedicated to Lord Badrinath one of the avatar of Lord Vishnu
It is at an elevation of 3,133 metres i.e. 10,279 ft above the mean sea level.
Badrinath temple was worshipped as a Buddhist temple, when King Ashoka was the ruler of India.
The temple is mentioned in ancient religious texts like Vishnu Purana and Skanda Purana.
Yamunotri Temple Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand Situated at a height of 3,291.
It is located on the backdrop of Bandarpunch
It is dedicated to goddess Yamuna.
Gangotri Temple Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand It is located on the banks of the river Bhagirathi at an altitude of 3,415 m (11,204 ft).
It is part of Chota char Dham Yatra

A Jyotirlinga is the place where lord Shiva is worshipped. It is the devotional representation of the God Shiva. There are 64 Jyotirilinga described in the Shiva Purana but among them 12 are the most sacred ones.
