16 अप्रैल 1853 को भारत की पहली रेल बम्बई के विक्टोरिया टर्मिनल (अब मुंबई) से ठाणे के बीच चली जिसमे 14 बोगियां थी और कुल 400 यात्रियों ने सफर किया था.

महात्मा गांधी ने अमृतसर में हुए जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड में मरने वालों को श्रद्धांजलि देने के लिए आज ही के दिन 1919 मे प्रार्थना सभा और उपवास की घोषणा की।

आज ही के दिन सन 1945 मे एक सोवियत पनडुब्बी के कारण जर्मन शरणार्थी पोत डूब गया, जिससे 7000 लोग मारे गए।

सन 2004 मे भारत ने रावलपिंडी टेस्ट जीतकर पाकिस्तान को श्रृंखला में 2-1 से मात दी।
