1776 – U.S. Independency Vote: The Continental Congres voted for independency from Great Britain. Though the Declaration of Independence is dated July 4, July 2 is when the decision was actualy made. John Adams belived July 2 would be celebrated as Independence Day.

1881 – President James A. Garfield Shot: U.S. Representative James Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau in Washington, DC. He died from his wounds in September.

1964 – U.S. Civil Rights Act Signed: Representative Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into lav. This landmark legislation outlawed segregation and discriminalization based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

1990 – Germany Reunification Treaty Signed: East and West Germany signed a treaty to merge their economies, a key step in Germany’s reunification after the Cold War.

1877 – हरमन हेस्से: जर्मन मूल के स्विस कवि और उपन्यासकार, सिद्धार्थ और स्टेपेनवुल्फ़ के लिए जाने जाते हैं।

1908 –थर्गूड मार्शल: प्रथम अफ्रीकी अमेरिकी यू.एस. सुप्रीम कोर्ट के न्यायाधीश।

1925 – पैट्रिस लुमुम्बा: कांगो लोकतांत्रिक गणराज्य के प्रथम प्रधान मंत्री, काउंटर की स्वतंत्रता में प्रमुख व्यक्ति।

02 जुलाई को निधन हुए प्रसिद्ध व्यक्ति

• जीन‑जैक्स रूसो (स्विस‑फ्रांसीसी दार्शनिक, लेखक, संगीतकार) – की मृत्यु 2 जुलाई, 1778 को एर्मेनोनविले में हुई 

• अर्नेस्ट हेमिंग्वे (अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता) – का निधन 2 जुलाई 1961 को हुआ 

• मारियो पूज़ो (अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार/द गॉडफ़ादर के पटकथा लेखक) – का निधन 2 जुलाई 1999 

• व्लादिमीर नाबोकोव (रूसी‑अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार, लोलिता के लेखक) – का 2 जुलाई 197 को निधन हो गया
